In aftermath of wars and tragedies in the Balkans, we women leaders moved beyond the controversies of the past by joining our forces across borders to overcome paradoxes and barriers in empowering women to become equal actors with men in building a better world. Being put in sidelines in peace times, when male dominated politics were setting up rules and norms of governance, we pulled enormous inspiration and support from the UNSCR 1325 in efforts of bringing women at forefront and leadership. We, the Regional Women’s Lobby in South East Europe (RWLSEE), are peacebuilders and democracy-builders, who strongly believe there can be no peace without justice and no democracy without women, for each nation living side by side in peace and equality in the region and the world. At this 20th anniversary of 1325, we are grateful to UN for bringing this highly strengthening instrument to support our journey to gender equality. We are not yet there but stand firm to achieve our goals
